We have studied several empires: Akkadian, Babylonian (Old and Neo), Assyrian, Egyptian, Chinese, Athenian, Macedonian, and Roman. Empires differ from other civilizations that we have seen in that they extend their own culture and society’s power and influence to other groups using either diplomacy or force. Choose two of the empires we have encountered. Discuss their origins, the development of their empires (i.e. expansion, control, and effect on their own and other civilizations), their significant cultural contributions, and their long-term effects. Then, compare and contrast the two, discussing the successes and failures of each and their repercussions.
